Review of the Hunter 42 by Allan Beaman

Year built 1997
Location of boat Wilmington NC
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? Yes
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, in a minute
Gear that's been added Generator, Garmen 3010 with weather, flat screen TV. Larger mattress in aft stateroom
Structural or complex improvements NONE
The boat's best features The interior layout, it is as center consule
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The windless has stumped me. It only works for 30 seconds and then stops and just clicks when I try to use it. The battery's are good. The screen is to small for the air conditioning and heating system.
Sailing characterisitcs This boat sails perfect for the type of crusing I enjoy. It is my first boat so I am not sure how any others sail
Motoring characterisitcs This Yamimar is the perfect motor for this boat. It is the larger one with a 3 bladed prop. Great for backing up
Liveability This is the perfect size boat to live on as a single guy, The only change I would make is the lighting in the head area needs to be brighter
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) NO
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any It was OK. It was from Riverside marine in Racine Wisconsin
Other comments I work as the manager for the Harley Owners Group for Harley-Davidson and Hunter could take some lessions on how to run an owners group to make it more fun and educational. This group needs to feel more like family. Put a funtion to gether at that factory for members of an owners group. Put your arms around your loyal customers My thoughts
