Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? YES! Our boat is the envy of the marina. It's the only Hunter docked at our marina and even though it's smaller than some of the boats our friends sail, it's the newest boat and everyone wants to see it and sail it! On Lake Mead,26 foot boats are popular as they're comfortable to spend a weekend on and not too big for the lake. Our Hunter is so comfortable and spacious inside compared to older boats...we bought it at the boat show here and really had no intention on buying a boat...we really didn't know much about Hunters, except the good name and our boat certainly has lived up to the Hunter reputation!
Gear that's been added yes! We've added many accesories including electric faucets, a marine head (the boat comes with an enclosed head with a porta potti). We've got just about every accesory you can buy topside...custom cushions, covers for everything...the boat came with the Edson wheel system (which we highly recommend! Much better than a tiller).
Structural or complex improvements We had the bottom professionally painted with anti-fouling paint to guard against the hardwater deposits in Lake Mead which build up on boats that are moored...we keep our boat in a slip at the lake, so we thought it prudent to keep the bottom safe.
The boat's best features The interior! It's so much more spacious and open...also how easily the boat sails...ours is trailerable with the special Hunter mast system, so we can travel with it easily and on the lake it's very easy to handle with the two of us.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. We had some trouble with the bottom gelcoat finish bubbling, but the dealer paid to get that problem fixed and we've had some trouble with the roller furler system because of the angle at which it hits the top of the mast on the 260...we're still getting that fine tuned.
Sailing characterisitcs As I said earlier, the 260 is very easy to sail, especially for the novice sailor, which we both were 2 years ago when we purchased the boat. Now that we more or less know what we're doing, it's even easier to sail!
Motoring characterisitcs our boat came with a little 5 horse power outboard motor which is fine for getting in and out of the marina, but on the lake, we'd like more power...we're looking into getting a 15 hp 4 stroke.
Liveability wonderful! It's very spacious and comfortable!
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Great! we dealt directly with the factory in Florida when the bubbling problem on the bottom of the boat became apparent. They were terrific in getting with the dealer in San Diego and taking care of the problem...the follow through was great too. They made sure we were happy.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Nick and Mike from San Diego Sailing Academy are wonderful, Nick delivered the boat here to Las Vegas and took us out on it to show us everything. We called many times in the first year with questions and they always had time to talk to us. We had a mishap with the mast (we dropped it!) Our insurance company paid for it, and Mike from San Diego sailing took care of ordering a new mast from Hunter, then he brought it out and installed it right in our driveway!
