Review of the Hunter 33.5 by Don Gibb

Year built 1988
Location of boat Solomon's Island, MD
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. Boat is a good firm sailer. A lot of boat for the money.
Gear that's been added Battery Charger, AM/FM CD stereo w/ 2 spkrs.
Structural or complex improvements Replaced all holding tank hoses due to foul ordors.
The boat's best features Roller furling jib, tacks very well, turns very fast, stable downwind and fairly quick for its size.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Holding tank hoses, seriuosly underpowered Yanmar (16Hp), 1/4
Sailing characterisitcs slower on a port tack, stears into the wind even with the wheel brake on, solid downwind.
Motoring characterisitcs underpowered engine but extremely reliable.
Liveability Good liveaboard unless you are over 6'. Aft berth is small and cramped, v berth is to short for the taller of the species as is the settee
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) n/a
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Tidewater Marine in Annapolis, not very responsive would not buy from them again.
