Review of the Hunter 33.5 by Shaun Moore

Year built 1994
Location of boat Houston, Tx
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes
Gear that's been added Central Air and Heat, AM/FM/CD, ST-50 TriData, Microwave, extra lighting, night lighting.
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features Space down below, large shower/head with separate sink area. Lots of teak down below.Boat is quick and fun to sail.Headroom.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I think a better design around the packing gland area could have easily been done. If you have any water in this area and heel while sailing, it drains onto the galley floor.
Sailing characterisitcs Great boat with a knack for keeping up with bigger boats. The 55ft main combined with the 130 genoa gives you lots of sail area. There are two reefing points and you will need them both. Boat handles well with very little weatherhelm. Will easily do 7-7.5 knots all day in a good wind.
Motoring characterisitcs Motors well in forward with the 27 hp Yanmar. Usually motor at 3000 rpm which equals about 7 knots.Does not
Liveability Great use of space, Huge refrigerator, nice galley.Bunks sleep well, I don't know how two people would ever fit in the V-berth together.Lots of windows, great headroom.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Great
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any This is my second boat purchase from Ship and Sail in Clear Lake. I would recommend them to anyone in the greater Houston area.
