Review of the Hunter 33.5 by Hewi

Year built 1992
Location of boat Southern Maryland
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? Yes
Owner bought the boat in Anna
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Hell Yea!
Gear that's been added I bought this boat used and it came with everything and I am always finding more.
Structural or complex improvements No, but I've got plans....just need money.
The boat's best features The layout is everything I looked for in a boat. Plenty of room in for and aft cabins, plenty of storage (2 hanging lockers!), roomy and bright main cabin.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Raw water for the head, but the good news is I use the shower fixture, it keeps the toilet clean and there is no raw water stench. The wind and depth instruments aren't working, but who needs them?
Sailing characterisitcs 20-25 mph winds, 4 foot white caps and still ran about 7 knots on point.
Motoring characterisitcs 8 knots with the current @ 2400 rpm's and the motor just sniffed fumes, the needle hardly moved.
Liveability 1 person = perfect 2 = cozy 3 = kinky but crowded
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any If you want a boat, see Paul Rosen @ Annapolis Yact Sales. Almost everywhere else I went tried to sell me what they said I wanted, which typically was their highest profit makers. Paul was patient, honest, and helped crew during the sea trial.
Other comments This is my first boat and after much research and deliberation, I feel I've made the right choice. Form, fit, function and price can not be beat.
