Review of the Hunter 33.5 by Bob Belvin

Liveaboard? No  
Owner bought the boat in 1999  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes  
Gear that's been added ST4000+ autopilot,chartplotter,Standard Horizon VHF radio with cockpit RAM mike,cockpit cushions,  
Structural or complex improvements Had to replace the holding tank.  
The boat's best features Internal layout, large rear berth, boarding access and lockers on the stern, speed and manuverability. It's a pretty boat.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Holding tank and overboard discharge path, mast has a prebend that is too much for the sail. Anchor locker is small and does not allow ues of a windlass as far as I can see.  
Sailing characterisitcs Reaches hull speed in 12 Kts of wind, high freeboard and width are a detrement in high winds. It is a 'dry' boat and spray is not a big problem. I do not have a dodger.  
Motoring characterisitcs Yanmar 3GMH diesel has good power with a 3 bladed prop and with the large rudder is easily handeled in tight places. 4.5' draft makes navigating the ICW easier.  
Liveability Galley is just big enough. Salon is roomy and comfortable, Rear berth is large but I had to add foam to be soft enough for sleeping. Storage is adequate. Forward V berth is small and slopes in a head down angle, not good.
