Review of the Hunter 260 by Doug Asbury

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, there is no boat on the market in the size that is as nice as this boat. This is the fifth water ballast boat that I have owned. First one was the Hunter 23.5, not a great boat, then the Macgregor 26c which was nice and good sailer easy to trailer. Then the Macgregor 26X, awful boat it did not sail well nor did it motor well with the 50hp Honda. Went back to the 26c and then finally sold it to get the Hunter 260. I bought it to take cruises for a week and figured with the width it would not be a swift boat, but to my surprise it is. I have won a number of races in it.  
Gear that's been added GPS, Radio, solar panel was on it when I bought it  
Structural or complex improvements None, it seems to be very strong.  
The boat's best features The size of the cabin and ability to sail well. All boats are a compromise, but this boat is a great overall boat.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The downhaul on the rudder does not work. You have to stand on the rudder and then tie it off.  
Sailing characterisitcs This boat is very swift, it does heal some because you have to get the water ballast out of the water to get much out of it.  
Motoring characterisitcs Mooring is not hard at all  
Liveability Would not want to live on it for ever, but if I had to pick a 26 foot to live on this would be it.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) no experience, bought it used

Other comments If you want a boat that you can move around on a trailer some, but not every weekend this will fit you perfect.
