Review of the Hunter 260 by John Kagan

Year built 2001
Location of boat Kerr Lake, N.C.
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, Absolutely. This is a great boat and perfect size for sailing on Kerr Lake. I plan to take it to intracoastal N.C. in the coming years also. It has a very spacious cabin for a 26 ft sailboat.
Gear that's been added I had the following options added: roller furling jib, upgraded cloth cushions, wheel steering with outboard throttle controls on the pedestal, bimini, and shore power.
Structural or complex improvements No.
The boat's best features Comfort and ease of sailing.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Rain coming in at the back of the slider. Also, I have added risers for the jib cam cleats.
Sailing characterisitcs Sails very well in 5-15 knot winds. Can't quite head as close to the wind as larger boats with travelers. Over approx. 15 knots I have reefed the main or sailed just with jib to maintain comfort.
Motoring characterisitcs A little hard to manuever but no problem. I plan on adding a rod from the rudder to motor to improve manueverability.
Liveability Very liveable for weekend overnighters or extended trips of several days. Ideal for my family of 4.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Not yet.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any My dealer was very helpful with the purchase and commisioning.
Other comments I like the quality of the boat. I was considering a MacGregor but felt the Hunter was a much better "investment" which I will be happy with for a long time to come.
