Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? First let me explain this is my second new Hunter as I previously owned a 1993 23.5 and kept it until I traded it in on my new 2002 240. I also spend now 6-7days a week living on my boat as I recently retired. I will be relocating following this sailing season to Punta Gorda Isles Charlotte Harbor, Fla. and will experience for the first time sailing my 240 on the Gulf. (sailing tips much welcome and appreciated). I would buy this boat again and I will remain a devoted Hunter sailor as I intent within the next couple of years to move up to a 306....I have had friends to sail with me and the boat is comfortable with 5 daysailors and a couple for an extended weekend with a 2 kids if necessary..Ther are numerous engineering improvements compared with the 23.5. However Hunter needs to redesign the placement of marine batteries from in the cabin under the cockpit where in a very confined space they must be lifted approximately 8 inches over a partition. I will only be able to accomplish that feat for a few more years and even now I am at risk of dislocating my back. Aside from that criticism and one reommended improvement of replacing the manual water pump in the basin with a better quality manual pump. Thanks Hunter for improving the quality of my life since my first Hunter 23.5 in 1993
Gear that's been added Electrical upgrade due to TV/VCR/DVD,CD, Microwave and George Forman grill. Also added Magma Gas grill, marine radio and garmin gps, depth sounder, ez steer, remote control for outboard. Additonally I added a speaker system and amp that would allow all speakers to play the audio from all of the equipment listed above.
Structural or complex improvements Some of the above were complex but that of course is relative compared to what......
The boat's best features Quality of workmanship is generally good and the quality of most equipment exceeds expectations for the price of the boat. After purchase service through Hunter is outstanding. Unfortunately I have not had the same experience with the dealers from where I have purchased my boat. However in talking with other Hunter Owners I believe my dealer experiences were the exception rather than the rule.......
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Battery placement is at the top of my list and the manual pump which I just replaced but has leaked from my purchase.
Sailing characterisitcs Great sailing and easy to handle, very responsive...Not the fastest(could be the sailor)but damn fun......
Motoring characterisitcs I have had the same 8 hp Tohatsu on both of my Hunters. I was able to back my Hunter into a tight spot for several years and it was easy despite having lost an eye to melanoma. The boat is responsive with the 8 however when I replace my Tohatsu I will buy a 9.9 for the extra speed.
Liveability I think I described that clearly when responding to a question above......
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any As stated above, I love the Hunter and the service ethic of the corporation, the dealer network requires some attention.....
Other comments Buy one and improve the quality of your life and that of the close friends you honor with an invitation to go sailing.......
