Review of the Hunter 240 by John

Year built 2002
Location of boat Panama CIty Beach, FLorida
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 5-6
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? I would buy this boat again. However, I would like to have had a longer training session on rigging, laucning, retrival and derigging. I would also have gotten an electric start auxilliary motor instead of the hand crank model.
Gear that's been added No extra gear added
Structural or complex improvements No improvements made to date
The boat's best features The ease at which I can lauch and retrieve the boat.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The trailer has given me the most problems. The jack has broken and I have had to replace it 3 times since I bought the boat in May of 2002. Recently I had the surge brakes lock up and was unable to take the boat out until I got them fixed. I als changed the ring pins to alligator pins, I makes it much easier to rig and derig the boat.
Sailing characterisitcs I easily outran a McGregor 26 in about 8-12 mph wind. That was fun.....
Motoring characterisitcs Need an electric start motor because some times that 2 cyle hand crank motor just doesnt want to start.
Liveability
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
