Review of the Hunter 240 by Mark Kissel

Year built 1998
Location of boat North Carolina
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. However, I might take another long look at the 260.
Gear that's been added VHF, depth/knot log, spare gas tank.
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features Great sailing and fast. I like the large cockpit and swim platform with boarding ladder.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Cockpit lockers don't have drains. Jam cleats for jib sheets make difficult to singlehand. Turnbuckles for shrouds are easy to bend during mast raising.
Sailing characterisitcs The boat points upwind really well. As long as the rudder is all the way down, there is only minor weather helm. In heavy air, reefing is necessary to keep the boat at a comfortable heel angle. The centerboard is very effective at reducing leeway.
Motoring characterisitcs I have a Tohatsu 8 hp. The motor has plenty of power to push the bow across the wind in a strong blow. Backing is easy but requires a little boat speed before the rudder takes hold.
Liveability The boat functions really well for two people. The cabin area is large and comfortable. The aft berth is huge and the hatch there makes this berth livable on hot nights.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Have not dealt with Hunter directly.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I bought the boat at a boat show and got several
