Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes I think it is the best trailerable cruising boat on the market.
Gear that's been added Options from dealer:CDI furler - I'm glad he talked me into it.sternrail seats - Kids love them.8hp - A must in areas with strong currents.Items I have added:VHF Cruising chuteMagna grillHand held GPS
Structural or complex improvements No, the next addition will be the storage cabinet that sits on the sink area. It is shown in the photo forum.
The boat's best features Overall value. It is truely a trailerable boat. I do keep it in the water during the sailing season, but its nice to be able to pull it out when tropical storms and huricanes move up the coast. The mast raising system is great.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The clam cleats are worthless. I would like to see a track mounted so that boats with furling systems can adjust the block to maintain proper sheeting angles. The arm that supports the hatch in the v-berth is screwed into the hull liner. It pulled out in the first 2 months we had the boat.
Sailing characterisitcs The boat goes well in light winds. If you are not used to sailing smaller centerboard boats that heal alot you will need time to get used to the amount of heeling in moderate winds. I usually put a reef in the main at 13-15 knots. If i forget my wife reminds me. We have sailed our boat numerous times in sustained winds of 20-25 knots. With a reef in the main and a partial furl in the jib it was a comfortable and quick ride.
Motoring characterisitcs The 8hp Tohatsu has been trouble free. I would recomend atleast an 8hp if sailing in tidal waters. I imagine a smaller motor would be sufficient in lakes.
Liveability Wouldn't try to live on it even if the wife threw me out of the house. However it is comfortable for a small family to take extended weekend cruises on. We have two children ages 3 and 6. They love to spend 2-3 days at a time cruising the bay.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) They were great. I had a problem with the snap shackle on the bottom the mainsheet block pulling out of the block and bending. My dealer assisted in contacting Hunter and they mailed a new One free of charge. I didn't miss a weekend on the water.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I bought the boat from
