Review of the Hunter 240 by Pat Barton

Owner bought the boat in 1999  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? maybe.i like the design of the boat, the trailerability and clean, well thought cockpit and cabin. hunter, however, has got to do something about quality control.

Structural or complex improvements not yet, but boy do i want a roller furler.its a wee narrow place on the foredeck  
The boat's best features nice big cockpit enhanced by stern rail seats.lots of storage. spiffy transom and swim ladder.a snap to sail.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. ordered a bimini from hunter with the boat, but it is apparently incompatible with stern rail seats.boat came with with jib sheet jam cleats and halyard spinlocks in the wrong position (reversed.)cicuit breaker panel was wired incorrectly.unable to raise/lower centerboard with mast up because it pinches the block assembly under the stepping plate.a leak on the starboard side of the hatch where the teak bow on the forward part of the hatch is slightly warped.  
Sailing characterisitcs it's pretty neat, pretty fast.it doesn't point as close to the wind as I'd like, but it sails very well on a beam/broad reach. nice stable platform.  
Motoring characterisitcs fine. not a lot of control in reverse, but manageable.  
Liveability it is, therefore it lives.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) my experience with hunter was very good. then i bought this boat:(  
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any nice people.they couldn't get anything done without being beat over the head, but real nice.
