Anchor Well

Anchor well works pretty well, has plenty of room for both the main and spare rode. Horizontal Maxwell windlass has enough power up with foot switch next to gloves and manual drop. Main rode has 50 feet of G4 chain, 150 feet of rope and another 50 feet of G4 chain followed by150 feet of rope. I always hand pay in and out just to keep an eye on things and control what goes on.

Heavy duty polyurethane road-find gloves come in handy when paying in a muddy chain. Hard to see, but just below and to the right of the windlass enclosure is a 20 pound kellet that I clip onto the shackle that connects the chain to the rope thimble. Some call it a skippers sleeping pill.

Maxwell drum and gypsy handle the job quite well. I always pay the chain off the gypsy and into the well to avoid chain bunching and jamming beneath the gypsy. Ditto the rope.

The round plate with holes on this side of the drum is the clutch adjustment knob. The holes are for the spanner wrench to loosen or tighten the clutch. Our boat was missing the wrench so I made one. Comes in handy when needed.

Made the wrench out of SS bar, two SS bolts with the heads and threaded sections cut off and two pieces of teak trimmed to make a comfortable handle.

Handle works well when needed to either tighten or loosen the clutch plate.
