Pump that Holding Tank (part 2)

posted 10-07-2008 by Brigg Franklin

As I mentioned in my photo article on fixing the holding tank platform, this led to another set of holding tank projects. I sail on a lot of North West lakes where there are no marine pump out stations. This led to my thinking how I could use the RV dump stations at most rest stops. A macerator pump seemed the best answer. However due to the potential to damage the pump when I went to a marine pump out I had to devise a safe way to use both. This is the basic set up. A T in the line with one route through the pump and the other directly to the deck fitting.

I then added a new black cap deck fitting on the starboard side for the direct line and used the origional port fitting for the Macerator pump.

I added a 1 nylon pipe-to-hose adapter that screws into the deck fitting and 12 foot of flexable pool filter hose to reach the RV dump recepticle. The nylon adapter unscrews when not in use and is stored in the fuel locker, in the stern.

The whole assembly fits neatly under the cockpit floor, behind the stern bulkhead. My next step will be to add a power supply push button near the deck fitting.
I have a more detailed description and additional pictures on my personal sailing web site at: http://northstarsailing.home.attbi.com
I also have several other projects either completed or in progress. I think this was a great project for anyone who sails on remote waters.
