Sail Track Stops

posted 10-07-2008 by Jim Seamans

This is normally where the sail track stop belongs, but as ususal it went over the side last time we dropped the main. Getting tried of either catching or losing the stop, I deceided to rig something similar to what was on my H19.

Starting Point

I think a 3/4 length would work better but none of the local stores had one so I had to settle for a 1. This pin as a low profile against the mast.

Cotterless Detent pin 1

Just so happens I have this contraption for drilling which allows you to have a portable drill press. Its important that this hole be drilled straight as possible. Used a 1/4 drill bit turning slowly, high speed is not needed. If anyone is curious you can get this drill press attachment at Sears.

Drilling rig

This is what it looks like after the drilling. The detent pin will actually rest in the inner and outer part of the track.

Hole drilled

Took some small line and rivited it to the mast to act as a safety line for the pin. Now I have a positive track stop that wont go swiming and easily removed.
