Review of the Hunter 31_83-87 by Jim Johnson

Year built 1987
Location of boat Lake Erie
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, it has been a great introduction to sailing. My/our first sailboat.
Gear that's been added ONly small items, the boat was very well equipped by the previous owner, sails, etc.
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features Boat has very good room for relaxing and weekending. V-berth is a little small for 6ft+ people. Aft berth is roomy but a little lacking in headroom. Sails great, easy to single hand.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Fuel filter location makes it difficult to service. Head/shower is a little small for 6-2, 250#.
Sailing characterisitcs Boat sails very well in Lake Erie winds, most comfortable in 8-15kt. Large sail area makes 20-25kts a challenge.
Motoring characterisitcs Motor at 2500rpm approx 4-4.5kt. Use only to and from dock up river.
Liveability Spend only weekends, mostly wife and I. Sometimes with adult children. Has adequate room.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Bought boat used from Fairport Marine, Tartan builder, trade-in. Hunter has been very good answering the few questions we have had. Local Hunter was very helpful when looking for a boat even though they didn't get the sale.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any n/a
Other comments Very satisfied with boat. Compared to a new one of similar size, a real bargin.
