Review of the Hunter 23.5 by Norman James

Year built 1994
Location of boat Austin, TX
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1996
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Probably- The boat is almost to big for me to trailer easily.
Gear that's been added VHF Radio. The boat already had a bimini, roller furler, stereo, compass, and instruments.
Structural or complex improvements I need to replace the transom. The wood has split at one of the bolts.
The boat's best features The amount of room in the cabin. I think it is easy to launch and rig considering its size.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I think it would be beneficial to be able to drain all of the water from the tanks when the boat is inclined on the ramp. This would make it much easier to pull up the ramp.I also think the trailer could use two axels.
Sailing characterisitcs Once the boat is in the water, it is a joy to handle. It points well in the wind.
Motoring characterisitcs It motors fairly well.
Liveability The boat is a great weekend although I think it could use more storage other than under the seats. Things tend to get wet there.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Yes, they have been very helpful.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
