The boat's best features Recently, we had some nasty weather on our lake here in central Ohio. Two boats dismasted, one dipped his mast and flooded the cabin. I was concerned about my H23 because the stats in this forum say that it has a less than optimal capsize screen rating. Well, yesterday a storm front popped up while I was under short mainsail and full (110%) jib. My three passengers were non-sailers, so I was basically single handed. While beating into the wind I was convinced I had too much sail up, so I decided to head downwind to get more stable, then run on deck and drop the jib. But my tiller hand got the message too quick and I started my downwind turn without letting out the sails. The wind quickly put my port rail into the water to the point it was running into the cockpit. I quickly turned back into the wind and soon the boat popped right back up. I'm amazed that the rudder was still in the water! That was a golden opportunity to dip the mast into the water, but the boat saved my butt! I don't care what the stats say, this is one great boat! Thanks guys, you make me look good!!
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Just not enough head room! Got to find a bigger Hunter!
Sailing characterisitcs Wonderful! The wife and I love night sailing. The power boaters all go home, the lake smoothes out and the wind is comes back up much more constant than during the day.
Motoring characterisitcs In and out of the dock. Why else would you use a motor?
Liveability Not enought head room, and the wife really wants an enclosed bathroom.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) No direct dealings.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Nope.
Other comments I'd buy another, and plan to.
