Review of the Hunter 25_73-83 by Christopher Duncan

Year built 1978
Location of boat killeen tx
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1992
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? no, i would have bought a larger one
Gear that's been added cunningham, extra battery
Structural or complex improvements refinished interior, re-overed cusions, the ones that came with the boat were, well, yuck
The boat's best features very forgiving, and very stable once she reaches about 15 degrees of heel, hull very strong, boat is also very fast
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. hard weather helm until you balance it, needs more ventilation
Sailing characterisitcs I usually sail on a lake but the winds here in texas can get very strong and gusty up to 30k, i have been sailing when a storm came and the winds blew a bass boat over, so i know it will take the punishment, with an extreamly reefed main and no headsails we made it ok with just a little heel and ome good speed. I have also raced other boats of the same size or larger and have passed most, but with my 6'2" frame i do hit my head alot
Motoring characterisitcs I use the outboard tiller and the boats tiller in conjuntion usually holding the boats tiller with my feet and turning with the out board, she makes good speed with half throttle but as someone said the cavitation is a nusiance
Liveability I have spent a few weekends with the family but at the end of the day you are glad to get off and streach your leggs, the seete's in the cabin are uncomfortable to lean back on but a back board ahould fix that.also had to stiffen the cusions for sleeping, the foam is to soft for me
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) n/a
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I bought the boat used from the sailboat shop in Skaneateles NY, Mike and Frank were very helpful and understanding to help me get started, as a novice "big" boat sailor i had many questions that they helped me with, Mikes wife even informed me that my wife had gone into labor with my son! talk about service
Other comments although the boat has undergone cosmetic changes since i bought her and has "Land Sailed" a thousand miles she still gleams in my eye i hope to take her to the ocean and give her a try there one day
