Review of the Hunter 212 by A. Mueller

Owner bought the boat in 2000  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, it is simple, easy to trailer and set-up and is easy to manage and sail for beginners.  
Gear that's been added Most dealer options, nothing else  
Structural or complex improvements No, Hunter frowns on this.  
The boat's best features Simple, rugged construction, love the open transom which rarely admits water but makes swimming off a delight.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Need to remember to check the turnbuckle position when raising/lowering the mast.  
Sailing characterisitcs Generally sails well and is straight forward. A bit tender in gusts with the maisail up, the factory included reefing point works well in gusty conditions. Not going to win races downwind, mostly as a result of the B&R rig and an inability to really let out the main.  
Motoring characterisitcs Motors well with 4hp. No suprises  
Liveability Great sun shelter for daysailing and a good overnight "camper" for a couple.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)  
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Sayre Sailing in Charleston was wonderful, definately went far above and beyond expectations. Quite a pleasant experience.  
Other comments Is a perfect, inexpensive sailboat which can be sailed/motored to your favorite anchorage and then provide you with a great swim platform/lounge for the day. With increasing prices it is still a bargain. Would highly recomment the bimini and consider the mast-stepping system as standard.
