Review of the Hunter 23.5 by Dave Royce

Year built 1994
Location of boat Seattle, WA
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1996
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, the quality and value of this boat made it a must to buy.
Gear that's been added BBQ, AM/FM CD player w/BOSE Speakers, Water tank w/electric faucet, marine radio, solar battery chager, roller furling.
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features Ease of launching.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Water leakage around aft rub rail. Took many hours to find and seal to make boat water tight. Deck lockers need to have a drain installed. ( I am looking at ways to do this without major structure changes.)
Sailing characterisitcs 15 knots to bearly no wind. The Puget Sound changes by the minute.
Motoring characterisitcs Have 8hp Johnson, does great job. Have to motor through channels and locks. No problems.
Liveability Great for two. My wife and I spend may weekends onboard. Water tank with 15 gals makes it better.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Poor, very hard to get anything from them.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Purchased from an Auto dealer, local dealer inspected and serviced. Great local dealer, Marine Service Center, Seattle, WA.
