Review of the Hunter 23.5 by Lowell F. Walker

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? No, I would get a bigger one. AT that time, I probably should have gone for the 26, since I needed a trailerable (I thought).  
Gear that's been added EDson pedestal steering.  
Structural or complex improvements Well, the pedestal was pretty complex for me.  
The boat's best features  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The owners manaual says leave the ballast valve open as you launch. If you launch this way, the boat has a tendency to settle back on the triler which then necessitates backing further into the water which sometimes isn't an option in these parts. I leave it closed until afloat now. I also don't like the way the jib hits the lifelines. However, I don't know how to correct it unless you would replace it with a smaller jib riding higher on the forestay.  
Sailing characterisitcs I had a broach in Core Creek under jib alone. Of course, I had little sailing experience and learned a lot from this. I learned how to be scared and recover anyway.  
Motoring characterisitcs It motors well but backing can be a problem. Many times you have to turn the O.B. along with the rudder to get the desired effect. I received a Tohatsu O.B . with mine, and its a great little8 hp motor.  
Liveability Not very. No headroom, just big enough for 2 people. Six people could sleep on this boat if they were VERY good friends.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Satisfactory.  
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any A dealer in Va. VEry good experience. He has been Hunter dealer of the year at least twice. He personally delivered the boat to my house. And I didnt even have the check to pay him until the next day.
