Review of the Hunter 23.5 by George Greenauer

Year built 1995
Location of boat Panama City, FL
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1995
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, although I wasn't familiar with the water ballast hunter 26 at the time.
Gear that's been added Harken roller furling, Bidata speed log
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features Large cockpit, all lines lead aft, points well, easy to sail for novice crew, shallow draft for gunkholing,
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Cockpit lazzarettes flood after rain or cockpit wash. Don't use trailer much, glad of that.
Sailing characterisitcs Tender up to 15-20 degrees of heel. Stable after that unless winds in excess of 15-18 knots. Furling main and jib reduces overpowered situations.
Motoring characterisitcs Upgraded to 4 cycle 8 horse Honda. No problems with thrust or speed. Motors well in reverse, will do hull speed in forward.
Liveability Must
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Good. Both directly and through dealer.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
