Review of the Hunter 27 by

Year built 1982
Location of boat St. Pete, Fla.
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Multi-week coastal cruising
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? Yes
Owner bought the boat in 1987
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, or a 30, or 33, bbut being that I have this one, it has completed a metomorphisis, I,ve made as blue water capable as I possibly could, I've added, a bridge deck w/a high sill, a watertight locking companionway door, cockpit reduction boards, partial dodger, bimini, solar panel rack and panel, wind generator, wind steer vane, fwd
Gear that's been added I've added 47 systems for seaworthyness, and about 50 for desired features,
Structural or complex improvements When I go to sea, I have an egg crate storage sys. in the v berth that applies structual cross load to the hull, the v berth is sealed, the watertight door, has a viewing hatch and a bilge pump built into the door, 2 mini rib bulkheads deviding the cabin settees, the settees are also sealed and have a bilge pump on one of the to access lids, the 3 vert. little doors, replaced w/ watertight hatches, styrofoam blocks 8"x10"x 8ft in the coaming, there are 12 3/16" 1-19 standing rigging wire,
The boat's best features wide decks, full 360deg. coaming, small deep cockpit, anchor well, 8 opening ports 2 hatches, wide beam, small stern, classic lines.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Practical sailor has put down Hunter, the call the hunters the cheapest line, yet, try to do what I have done on a catalina, a C7C, a cal, a newport, and every 27 footer out there!, You can't,
Sailing characterisitcs Weatherhelm, which I have corrected, w/ a 4 to 1 boom vang, also I can take in a reef, going to windward was not too bad, but with a yankee cut headsail, and it's sheets inside the shrouds it is better, the mast use to pump, on winds, over 15, but with the inner forestay,
Motoring characterisitcs well with the onelunger yanmar, you manage !, though it would be nice to have the next size larger engine.
Liveability I've been living on board the "frigate" first in 89, then since 1993, I added a cross shelf at the foot of the v berth for the tv, vcr, clock radio and ceramic heater, I've added a shower to the head, though I rarely use it, a 110v refrig below the sea princess elec
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) no
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any no
