Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1990
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? A resounding YES. This has been a really great, easy to sail boat.
Gear that's been added Dingy, bimini, California dodger, and finally a full enclosure, much better 12v lighting, ash wood slatted sides in main salon and v-birth, asymetrical spinnaker, 6-1 Harken mainsheet dead-ended on traveler, anchor wash-down pump, auto pilot, Red Dot cabin heater, fiddle rails, varnished cabin soles, 10 additional handholds below decks, and many other features to improve life.
Structural or complex improvements Many of the above were complex, but not structural.
The boat's best features Great wide-open cabin with a lot of natural light, easy to sail single handed, easy to sail in a real blow with non-sailing friends on board, nice cockpit.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Mainsheet system was real weak and could only be used in light air, main hard to raise, but on the other hand it is the main of a 40' boat. Started raising it as the mast to save the hassle.
Sailing characterisitcs I have sailed the boat in everything from dead calm to 40 knots, including a 400 mile trip offshore in over 15' seas. The boat handled well and gave me a feeling of confidence. However, DON"T jibe that big boom in high winds! The boat also motors well. I used to keep it on the Chesapeake Bay and took a week vacation on it every year, and motored a lot to get to my destinations.
Motoring characterisitcs Boat handles well under power. Many other boater friends thinks that it backs better than most sailboats.
Liveability VERY livable for short periods of time. I have had as many as 6 people on board for 3 day weekends. Crowded? Yes, but try that on most 32 footers.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Very responsive.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought it from an individual.
