Review of the Hunter 23 by Gary Bridi

Year built 1992
Location of boat Pa
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, I have had a great 1st year. I was surprised that it is so fast. I have only a working jib and can usually pass other boats of the same size (J's excluded). After resetting the chain plates and 2 stancions, she is water-tight and I had no leaks, even during the hurricane. I have had her in winds up to about 25 knots and while there is significant weather helm, it has not been uncontrollable...my small boat expetirnce is to let out the main and it has been very efective.
Gear that's been added none
Structural or complex improvements no
The boat's best features Quick and comfortable enough to spend time on
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I wish she had stancions and lifelines aft
Sailing characterisitcs Good speed and some, but not uncontrollable weather helm
Motoring characterisitcs 5hp Tohatsu is plenty
Liveability Great for day sailing, would be ok for 2 to sleep, more than that would be tight
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
