Review of the Hunter 40.5 by Michael Clark

Year built 1996
Location of boat Miami
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Multi-week coastal cruising
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in Miam
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? This is an update to my previous comment. NO I WOULD NOT. I am extremely unhappy with the selling dealer, Florida Yacht Sales and Charters. Boat was very poorly commisioned. I have had engine problems, leaks, etc. List od items repaired over 40 ityems long in first six months. Engine problems and minor ptoblems. Although boat was delivered to me in Decemeber 1996 have spent much time in repairs and not sailing. Currently a new main A/C unit has to be installed replacing defective unit installed. Estimate sailing time 40% repair time 60%
Gear that's been added GPS, anchor
Structural or complex improvements Not yet!
The boat's best features Fast sailing, comfort below decks.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Find some poor quality factory installed items. e.g. raw water strainers are plastic not bronze, poor quality hose clamps. Repaired engine, A/C units, main hatch, anchor roller, holding tank macerator motor plus many many small items.

The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Fair to good.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought from Florida Yacht Charters and Sales. Very poor commisioning of boat. Plus misslead about maintenance and bottom painting. Definitely do not recommend.
