Review of the Hunter 40.5 by Pete and Peggy Pelloski

Year built 1993
Location of boat Port Sanilac Michigan
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1993
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. We moved up from a 32 O'day. It was a dream move for a family of five. With three boys it made for great weekends.
Gear that's been added Just GPS and autohelm instruments.
Structural or complex improvements None
The boat's best features Excellent interior layout, speed, speakers, fridge and freezer.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Leaking into stern bed through lazorette when washing cockpit. Electrical problems with fridge and freezer. Hinges and locking pins on cockpit storage compartments. Finding supply of natural gas filling locations. Main needs electric wenches as does anchor. Should have been standard. Have gone through two water pumps and an automatic bilge pump.
Sailing characterisitcs Flys from beam to weather. Poor on run. Need larger primary winches.
Motoring characterisitcs Great Yanmar motor. So far no problems. Handles well, and clips along at 7-8 knots
Liveability Excellent. Best feature. Laid out nicely. Very well developed kitchen area.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) 8.5 out of 10. Some finishing problems with missing teak plugs and some teak not finished.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
