If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. It is a good boat.
Gear that's been added Replaced the GPS with a Garmin 130
Structural or complex improvements none.
The boat's best features Easy shorthanded sailing, good overall performance, well balanced, nice rational layout below.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. No serious problems. We did have a leak last winter somewhere along the toerail that drained in to the starboard lazerette, onto the top of the fridge compartment. The top of said compartment is not watertight on my boat (perhaps this is the fault of the previous owner, I don't know) so I discovered about 2 gallons of water in the fridge one winter weekend morning. Quite surprising to find rainwater in what I thought was an interior compartment, inside a dry, locked cabin! A small tarp placed over the compartment solved the problem easily.
Sailing characterisitcs Well balanced, easy to handle in strong SF Bay conditions, not too quick in light air, but very easy to singlehand in any of the conditions I've faced so far.
Motoring characterisitcs Previous owner upgraded the engine to a Yanmar 44. Very nice motor. Boat tends to pull to port when under cruise power. This is s strong pull, and a bit annoying, but liveable.
Liveability Very comfortable. However, the head installation includes two anti-siphon (I guess) vents. One is installed in the locker in the forward cabin. It stinks, and makes any clothing hung there stink too. I've been advised to route this vent outside the cabin. Otherwise, the boat is well designed below. Functional, spacious, and private.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any We bought it from Cruising Specialists in Alameda. Great group, very helpful, made the purchase easy and painless.
