Review of the Hunter 37-cutter by Ron Pearson

Year built 1983
Location of boat Seabrook Texas
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in Nov.
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Definately. We (Debbie and I) love our 37 cutter
Gear that's been added Previous owner added A/C. refrig., blooper, and a nightmare of poor wiring. We added a Force Ten propane stove/oven, GPS, new counter tops and are continuing to upgrade as we go along.
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features Having moved up from an H23 we are still wided about the spaciousness. The boat handles well and is easy to ready for sailing on short notice. Our Yanmar 30 is smooth above 1000 RPM, which is normalfor a three cyclinder engine. This is a great boat to take our friends on for a first experiance in sailing.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Nothing so far
Sailing characterisitcs Smooth handling under all conditions. We had an engine failure because of poor workmanshipat a local ship yard and had to sail into our slip once under jib alone. The boat did a perfect job andour slip is down several waterways congested with boats and a fuel dock.
Motoring characterisitcs Other than in and out of the slip we don't use the motor.
Liveability
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I contacted Hunter when I was buying the boat and was treated as if I were buying their lastest model. They were helpful and friendly even though the boat was 13 years old. Very HIGH marks for Huntermarine.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any The broker was a jerk who got in the way of the seller and me doing business. His one and only concern was his comission. Once he got out of the way the experiance became pleasant.
