Review of the Hunter 37-cutter by John Killian

Year built 1982
Location of boat Kemah, Texas
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1997
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, I was looking for a 37C when I found mine on the internet in Fla in early 97. After almost one year and much repair and restoring of a neglected boat, I am very happy with the results and the sailing characterics of this boat, I would definitely buy another one. A great buy for the money.
Gear that's been added Added Marine Air Cond (required in TX)all new canvas, bypassed leaking holding tank for 15 gal one in V-berth,replaced all plastic portlites, new VHF, new stereo/CD,much TLC
Structural or complex improvements repainted non skid decks, raised boom 6 inches
The boat's best features Ease of sailing, especially short handed, and livability.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. original head holding tank was bad design. Portlites are not up to standard, but due to size I had to replace them with the same units the boat came with. Also, I have two areas of delamination on the cabin top that I am trying to solve. One area of 1 sq ft to the starboard of the main salon hatch, the other to the port of the port dorade. would appreciate any suggestions on repair, or if anyone else has the same problem.
Sailing characterisitcs boat is very well balanced, slow in light air (understandable)and handles well in heavier seas
Motoring characterisitcs 3 cylinder yanmar viberates at low RPMs. The 30 HP does a good job moving the boat. No complaints with the engine
Liveability Wife wanted the boat because of the enclosed quarter berth. After one year and a few guests on weekends, I agree. Big V berth and head a plus. You could serve Thanksgiving dinner on the folding dinette in the salon.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Only once, and they were helpful
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Selling broker placed the boat on the internet, even though he didn't have the listing. He was great. The listing broker was interested only in the commission check.
