Owner bought the boat in TIDE
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? DEFINATELY! This is my second Hunter and it's performance and quality are unbelievable. The major difference for us was the Hunter Dealer. TIDEWATER did an outstanding job getting the boat ready and to our specifications.
Gear that's been added We deleted the Autohelm ST50 components and added the ST80 Line. What a difference! Autohelm will soon have available the ST80 radar/chart unit that I will add later. We also choose the in-mast furling system. I have read several controversial forum messages about the uses of one. I found it very simple to use and the performance hit is minimal. Also added reverse-cycle heating, refrigeration, and Inverter.
Structural or complex improvements Just a few minor changes. We added a battery combiner to take full advantage of the solar panel and a zip-stop on the alternator. Had the dealer install Gel-batteries.
The boat's best features Everything! Although I haven't sailed a lot of different Hunters, this boat handles extremely well. Hunter will have a tough time improving on this model. It has a very comfortable interior layout and huge cockpit. Sail control has a simple, but functional layout. Plus, it's very fast.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. If there is something we haven't found it yet. The boat is one of the first 1998 models. I've noticed a few structural improvements.
Sailing characterisitcs Even with the in-mast furling system, the boat is fast and points well.
Motoring characterisitcs At first I was a little intimidated docking a larger boat. This boat handles great at slow speeds and its turning radius is much sharper than my Hunter 30T.The biggest difference I noticed was how quiet the engine was.
Liveability Plenty of space and room below.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) As always it has been very positive! I was lucky enough to be in the area before the boat left the factory. Jim Bohart gave me some insight into the building of the boat. The best thing about Hunter is that sure they are some minor issues with the boat, but Hunter has always come through.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any This made ALL the difference in the world. Working with Tidewater was a great experience. They went out of their way to accommodate all of our needs. I could not have asked for a better commissioning or checkout on the boat. I will definitely be a repeat buyer!
