Review of the Hunter 170 by Kip Bratlie

Year built 1977
Location of boat Sutton,MA
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1997
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, It was my first and am having a ball with it. I had to add reefing points and would like to add some more options to make it easier to sail by myself. It is also beginning to leak water into the bilge now.
Gear that's been added Seat Pads are great but get left behind often just because I am lazy.
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features It's a great handling boat and easy to trailor.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. No breakage but it is starting to leak water into the bilge.
Sailing characterisitcs
Motoring characterisitcs Tough to motor with in tight areas. Once moving it is ok unless there is water in the bilge as it becomes very hard to handle.
Liveability N/A
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) N/A I have always dealt with the dealer except when I tried to email Hunter. They never responded.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any It has been great. The dealer has responded very quickly to all calls. When I first put it in the water I had careless habits and kept breaking the spreaders. They were great.
