Review of the Hunter 35.5 by Morris Thorpe

Year built 1991
Location of boat Buffalo
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Multi-week coastal cruising
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1992
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes i would . it sails very well and the price was right
Gear that's been added auto pilot, bimini, dodger, whisker poll, hand pump for fresh water. new hatches bomar. new though hulls. new bilg pump. cushions. durards 4, gps, radio casset, and refrigeration
Structural or complex improvements added a storm sail inner stay and running back stays
The boat's best features easy to handle in rough weatherthe great lakes kick up in a hurry
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. had a small leak from the rudder post and ruined the bulk head had to reglass all the bulk head, also in rough weather the forward hatches would leak even with new gaskets. phoned hunter about bulk head didn't want to know about it. had to fix it myself even the dealer said it should not have happended. at the time the boat was only 3 year old
Sailing characterisitcs sailing from one end of the lakes to the other three to four weeks at a time. the boat handles very well, quick and passes meny other boats. 7 knots is not unrealistic, i have had the boat up 9 knots. the boat is a dream to handle
Motoring characterisitcs the motor pushes the boat very well with the two blade propeller. the only thing i would say is the the engine is loud below deck. better sound absorber would be better
Liveability lots of room. but needs more storage cabinets store
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) good and bad, good on the small things but when it come to the balk head they did not want to know about it,
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any the dealer was good except that he was a one man show and did not have the people to rig the boat. so i had to help. was that bad not really because i now know more about the boat to start right off the bat
