Review of the Hunter 35.5 by GENE ROBERTS

Year built 1995
Location of boat Deltaville, VA
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1994
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes
Gear that's been added Dodger, Binimi, Adler/Barbour Refrigation, C-Cushions in the cockpit, cruising spinn., second anchor, fixed mount Loran and hand held GPS.
Structural or complex improvements Added a second opening port in the cockpit that opens to the aft cabin.
The boat's best features Everything works as advertised, sails great and looks good. The boat was ready to sail away when I bought it. I added all that extra gear because I wanted to but none of it was necessary.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The sette cushions in the cabin were coming apart at the seams. Hunter replaced them once but within 6 months they were coming apart at the very same seams again. I am going to talk to Hunter about this problem. No ventlation in the aft cabin. I have studied this problem at great length but have not been able to come up with a workable solution.
Sailing characterisitcs No weather helm! An excellent boat on all points of sail, easy to reef the main while under way.
Motoring characterisitcs No problems at all. The boat is very fast under power but a bit noisy down below. needs more sound proofing insulation.
Liveability For me and my wife it is just fine. When you add a third person is ok.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) My first experience was not to good. The guy in the warranty section tried to tell me that that the problem was an "act of God" and not covered by the warranty. Needless to say I was not to pleased with this response. I finally had to get Jim Bohart to help me with the problem. My dealer, Nortons Yacht Sales in Deltaville have been more than helpful, going the second and third mile to make sure I was happy with my boat. I would recommend them to anyone wanting to buy a boat.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any As I said before, working with Ken and Carolyn was a good experience and would do it again! The staff at Nortons Yacht Sales will go out of their way to help a customer.
