Review of the Hunter 340 by Robert B. Palmer

Year built 1999
Location of boat Lake Winnepasaukee, NH
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, I have been very pleased with all aspects of the 340. The way it sails, the way it looks, the way it is built, the design, the engineering, and the dealer. I moor the 340 right in front of my house, and look at it everytime I look out the window, I am dazzled with the design, it just looks good in all ways. It looks even better than I envisioned it would.
Gear that's been added No
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features The sailing cockpit is great, because of its size and comfort, the arch, the eaze in which the boat can be handled. The interior design, its light, and its workmanship
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Nothing
Sailing characterisitcs Light wind, 12-15 kts, and a squal where the wind gusted to 50Kts. I was impressed with its handling in the heavy weather. It's a strong, safe boat. I kind of feel like I would take it almost anywhere I would sail..
Motoring characterisitcs Excellent, smooth, fast and responsive.
Liveability I love to sleep on the 340. The master state room is very comfortable. The galley is unbelievable for a 34 footer!
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I went to see the factory after I had ordered the 340. The Hunter people were great, and the factory was impressive. It's hard to believe they can produce a quality boat like that for the money they charge.. I guess it must be their mass production methods. I was dazzled with the real true quality of their workmanship.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I took delivery of the boat on Memorial Day weekend, one of their busiest times of year, and they did exactly what they said they would do, and they did it on time. The delivery date was one of the things I specified when I ordered the 340. The Seacoast Marine people really know their sail boats.
