Review of the Hunter 340 by Peter Tsepeleff

Year built 1997
Location of boat Alameda California
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in Alam
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? No. Too much weather helm.
Gear that's been added The cleats for the jibs were terrible. They ripped my jib sheets twice. I had to pay an extra $2,000 for two winches. Dealer would not do anything.
Structural or complex improvements Two Jib winches added.
The boat's best features Very roomy inside and in the cockpit.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Terrible in strong winds in San Frnacisco Bay. Definitely not for sailing with winds over 20 knots.
Sailing characterisitcs Terrible weather helm in strong winds.
Motoring characterisitcs Motors fair with a lot of vibration over 2500 RPM.
Liveability I like a lot of room. For it's size it is roomy but Catalina seems to have more room.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Never dealt with Hunter but dealer needs improvement.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Takes very long to get something done.
