Review of the Hunter 340 by David Mackenzie

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, the 340 lived up to my every expectation. It is fast, and the internal accomodation is very spacious.  
Gear that's been added Autopilot (ST4000 ), electric windlass  
Structural or complex improvements No  
The boat's best features Good allround boat. Lots of space inside, fast, moves well to windward. Having all the lines in the cockpit makes it easy to sail, even single handed.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Steering broke! Although from discussions this seems to have been a one off.I would like a different way of controlling the mainsheet. Having the stopper on the cabin roof means its difficult to ket out the main if you get hit by a gust of wind. Given it has a pretty powerful rig, this means I tend to sail it a little underpowered.I haven't found a way of testing the battery state.  
Sailing characterisitcs Moves well on all points of the wind. It sails well to windward even when very closehauled. On the last trip we overtook some 40 foot boats without any difficulty.  
Motoring characterisitcs It seems rather sluggish under motor, but it may be that the log is calibrated quite right yet.  
Liveability Lots of space inside, and very comfortable. With only two on board, we prefered to sleep in the saloon, rather than in the aft cabin. (We're only 5'6

The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any We bought the boat through Sunsail's Yacht Ownership scheme. That worked fine. They were very helpful, and managed to get us a boat in only a few months.
