Review of the Hunter 336 by Paul

Year built 1995
Location of boat Orange Park, FL
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1995
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, but would add refrigeration, wheelbrake, autohelm, and cruising spinnaker at the outset.
Gear that's been added Yes, a/c with reverse cycle heating, bimini, cockpit cushions as well as cushions for the tafrail seats, small power inverter, 12 volt outlet at the nav station, and GPS with computer interface
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features The large cockpit is perfect for entertaining. The cabin is comfortable for a long weekend for the two of us. The boat is large enough to be comfortable for a weekend, yet is easily handled by the two of us.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The biggest problem has been latches for the icebox lid and doors to the head and cabins pulling loose from the fiberglass. The other problem I foresee is wiring additional accessories such as additional fans or speakers as access behind cabin panels is limited. Battery boxes need to be better secured.
Sailing characterisitcs On a beam reach or point of sail forward of a beam reach, I can keep up with most any boat, but down wind its slow.
Motoring characterisitcs The 27 hp Yanmar is perfect, can maintain hull speed all day using less than a gallon/hr at 3000 rpm.
Liveability For day sailing, entertaining, weekending, I haven't seen any better layouts in a boat under 35'. The aft cabin is especially spacious and comfy. Michele likes the spaciousness and storage of the head.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I haven't dealt directly with the factory as the dealership has been just outstanding.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I bought the boat from Whitney's Marine and Candi and her entire staff have been absolutely wonderful to deal with from the sales staff to the service department.
