Review of the Hunter 336 by E. Almeyda

Owner bought the boat in 1996  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? definitely YESit is well finished, sails very well and is great with the motor. The room is equal to the older 38's and two male's can have privacy in their respective staterooms  
Gear that's been added Lots:ac, refrigeration, extra battery, 6 CD player, auto pilot, GPS nav station and helm, battery monitor, small inverter, radar arch, two solar panels,  
Structural or complex improvements if custom made aft radar arch(used for solar panels) is complex, then yes  
The boat's best features sailing qualities, overall quality, roominess inside and cockpit, ease of motoring  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. in three years of extensive but loving use, including solo trips Miami-Dry Tortugas, very little problemsthe holding tank and water gauges quit twice, i gave up on them i think the factory batteries are too small, would not last long with auto pilot, changed to bigger batterieswhen boat was new the anti-siphon valve which was placed over the engine broke and flooded engine with salt water, had Yanmar rep move valve to sidethe electrical wiring is poorly marked and access is terrible  
Sailing characterisitcs sails very wellone trip, Miami to Key West has 25-30kt wind on beam and was surfing all the way to key west on the waves doing according to two gps over 7ktsdown wind main blankets the jib so it is uselesshave had all canvass up on 25-30kts several times, and if properly trimmed took the sail area very well  
Motoring characterisitcs unfortunatelly Key West to Miami twice, no wind in August, no problem at 2700rpm doing 5.5 kts and used boat after trip 8 months before putting 16 gallons of diesel in tankbacks down great
