Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes
Gear that's been added Boat was very well equipped when purchased. have added GPS. Boat has air conditioning, refrigeration, loran, in-mast furling, Harken jib furling, hot water, Lectra-San, 4.5kw genset, CDI feathering prop.
Structural or complex improvements No, boat is solid, no delamination or soft spots on deck, no leaks, has a blister problem that will eventually be fixed, but small blisters that do not seem to penetrate gel-coat are very numerous.
The boat's best features Lots of good old boat for the money, everything seems very solid and substantial. Boat cuts through waves with very little motion due to fine entry and relatively narrow beam. Boat is comfortable below, with great headroom. Acres of teak below and wooden chainplate attachment points below make boat seem appropriately
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Usual Hunter problems, cheap portlights that break, poor access to engine, design of cockpit that causes water from breaking waves in heavy weather to run down deck of boat and dump directly into cockpit and helmsmans seat, instead of over the side. Have blister problem that will eventually require peeling of gelcoat and replacement. Sump design causes water to run into cabin sole when healed unless sump is pumped completely dry (which is difficult to do).
Sailing characterisitcs Sails well in all but lightest air - points well, needs to be reefed early or it develops weather helm.
Motoring characterisitcs Yanmar 2QM 15 - 5.3 mph@ 2100 rpm is usual cruising speed. Boat could use more power when going to weather in heavy seas, but it still gets there. 22 gals of diesel @ less than 3/4 gal/hr will go a long way. Boat has a terrific amount of reverse prop walk that makes docking and undocking an adventure when there is a crosswind.
Liveability With all the systems that have been added to the boat over the years, its great. Cockpit design could be improved, as it is somewhat small if more than 3 people on deck. Belowdecks is very good, except for Nav station which is sort of crampled, but since GPS, who cares?
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Haven't dealt with Hunter.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Private Sale -
