Review of the Hunter 33_77-83 by Dick Liebl

Year built 1981
Location of boat Noank Ct
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1989
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes
Gear that's been added added Hood 810 roller furling gear, replaced a vent with a solar/electric nicro vent, replaced main sail with a Doyle fully battened sail.
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features easy to sail, very good headroom, I'm 6.2, lots of ventilation, reasonable speed
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. the rudder post packing is almost impossible to reach and tighten. the chain plates leak every couple of years and need caulking too often.
Sailing characterisitcs everything from pleasant day sailing to a tropical depression spent at anchor in Lagoon Pond at Martha's Vineyard. Holds a course well on a beat, but wanders around on a reach and especially on a run
Motoring characterisitcs too much throttle will not increase the speed above 5.5 knots and will result in diesel smoke and residue on the stern
Liveability we have spent two weeks, with 5 people, cruising from Noank to Nantucket. Could use a larger fresh water tank and a larger storage tank for the head
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
