Review of the Hunter 33_77-83 by Ron Sebring

Year built 1980
Location of boat Toms River, NJ
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Multi-week coastal cruising
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1981
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Sure Would!
Gear that's been added Loran, GPS, Auto-pilot, AW, WS, Depth Sounder. Removed the carpet from the hull and installed teak battens over foam insulation.
Structural or complex improvements NO
The boat's best features She is not a racer but a very fast cruser. We kicked butt at the northeast rendezvous in 1998 taking a third place only to be beat by two brand new 37.5.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Wish I had orderd her with the deep keel
Sailing characterisitcs She is solid in a blow. Got caught once in a tropical storm with 60 winds and 20 foot seas. A little uncomfortable but Rhiannon did fine.
Motoring characterisitcs Can power a 5 kts all day. amlpe power in all condtions for a sail boat.
Liveability Good ventilation. Great layout.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Poor in the early days. Much more responsive today.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any The dealer and I became great frends.
