Review of the Hunter 30_74-83 by robbob

Year built 1978
Location of boat Gateway to Straits of Juan de Fuca
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2010
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? YES - Otter has been a great boat. As I get older I do wish I had an open transom, but everything else is good.
Gear that's been added Autopilot
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features Room down below.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.
Sailing characterisitcs Points good into the wind, stable in a blow.
Motoring characterisitcs The engine is a one cylinder so she shakes and makes noise, which after 8 hours can be painful. Love when the wind comes up and the motor shuts down.
Liveability For 2 people she is very livable, we have done 2 weeks with no real issues. And one more person and Otter becomes an overnight. Had grand kids on for 4 days and it worked but was hectic.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) N/A
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any N/A
Other comments I would like to re-engine, but cost is a big factor. Also would like to move power panel up to a more comfortable height. May add a swim deck on the stern and would like an arch on the stern for solar panels and radar.
