Review of the Hunter 460 by 29palmsailor

Year built 2000
Location of boat Oceanside
The boat is sailed on
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2014
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? YES I think a American Made Production Boat is just fine, offers great value for your money.
Gear that's been added On the Boat: Davits Watermaker Bowthruster Emergency Rudder System 300 Feet of Chain 65 Manson Supreme Backup (Second) Bilge Pump Jacklines
Structural or complex improvements Upon purchase, I had the chain locker reinforced with extra fiberglass
The boat's best features Great space down below
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The boat has anchor locker one way valves through the hull which dont work well and no way to drain the anchor locker once water gets in there. I am considering a weep hole. Also need to figure out the downwind piece.
Sailing characterisitcs Even with all the gear, the boat sails great when she has a bit of wind. With our stock main and ginny, weve gotten to nine knots in 15 knots of wind.
Motoring characterisitcs The boat motors well, nicely behaved and trucks along.
Liveability Great, the boat has enough space for our family of four and great living space in the cockpit. We cant wait to live on it when cruising.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Unfortunately, Ive called Hunter about several issues and have not received the promised follow-up I would like. I have been looking for a PDF version of my sailboat manual online but can only find the one for a 46.6, which isnt my boat. Hunter never got back to me with a solution.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any My broker is awesome. I worked with him and the brokerage for over three years without buying a boat, and he kept responding to me and showing me boats. Even saw this one when he was representing it and bought it a year later with him representing us but from another broker. Highly recommend Clark Hardy at Yachtfinders and Windseakers in San Diego and Christian and Company Surveyors.
Other comments I love our boat, dont care what others think. Weve taken 8 foot waves on the side with no sail up and she slugged right through them without missing a beat. Read about some of our buying and repairing adventures on livefree2sailfast.com
