Review of the Hunter 310 by Duncan and Alison

Year built 1997
Location of boat Chesapeake Bay
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1997
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Although the boat is still very new to us, we could not be happier
Gear that's been added GPS 130 Magellan, dodger and bimini
Structural or complex improvements no
The boat's best features Having two children on board, definitely the huge cockpit with mainsheet arch has meant less likelihood of bumps on the head or child overboard! The cabin space is great for a 31ft boat, and we love the swimming platform.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The throttle lever would not stay in place until the dealer attached a throttle clip. We also had water leaking through the aft corner cockpit lockers into the aft cabin (problem was solved by fibreglassing the locker liner to the hull - done by the dealership). We have now discovered a small leak where the mast meets the mast support in the main cabin.
Sailing characterisitcs Very responsive, fast and easy to sail!
Motoring characterisitcs Apart from the vibration at higher rpms, motoring is a pleasure. Great manouverability - still learning to dock this baby!
Liveability We don't think it could get much better for a 31ft boat. Maybe a gimbled stove and a refrigerator instead of a cool box would have been a better option.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) We have only been in touch once with Hunter regarding the leaking lockers, and they were very quick to work out the problem with the dealer, and very professional with us.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any We bought our boat from Paul Matrangola at Tidewater Marina in Havre de Grace (they also have a dealership in Annapolis). Paul's professionalism and knowledge of Hunter boats was impressive, and we were treated with respect even after the sale was made. We would recommend Tidewater to anyone, as long as they dealt with Paul.
