The boat's best features Speed in light air. Best bang for the buck for a boat with a scoop stern design. Stern access and swim ladder. Large rear cabin size, opening porthole close to your face for a breeze. Big Galley makes wife happy. Love CNG 2 tanks last all year. Salon bulkhead at v berth has 2 real doors and looks better than most. Vee berth has a closet and a cupboard and shelves above each side of the bed. The anchor locker doesn't intrude too much into the cabin, like some boats. Separate shower area a luxury. Also showerhead at rear stern walkthrough. Steps up companionway are shorter than most boats, so easier for old folks, pets and kids.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Pushpit railing loose at stantions at walkthru stern. No cabin ventilation for rainy days cruising. Bimini is low due to low boom height. 16x13 3 blade prop seems too big a bite, esp in marina. No headboard in rear cabin made for uncomfortable sleep against cold hull. Swim lockers will take in water from rain spash, as they are vented using a shortened lid gasket. No stern rail seat in 1991 model, look for 1993 it has a better rail mount.
Sailing characterisitcs Reef main around 18-20 knots for best upwind comfort. Speed upwind 6.3 to 6.5 kn, up to 7 kn close reach, 7.6 to 7.8 beam reach and broad reach, with 8.6 kn the fastest this season under winds to 28 kn. Will sail well in light wind.
Motoring characterisitcs 1/2 imp gal per hr at 1500 rpm with Yanmar 26 hp 3gm30. 1 gal hr at 2200 rpm sweet spot. 960 original hours on the engine. Hard starting when cold, must be warmed up enough or she stalls in gear.No problem after that. Still have the original 16x13 2 blade prop as a spare.
Liveability Wife endorses this cabin.
