Review of the Hunter 340 by Jean Philippe El Khazen

Year built 1999
Location of boat Lebanon
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Blue water, extended passages
Normal wind strength 23-30 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Definitively
Gear that's been added A third battery with the switch systems A Kiwi prop which gave an little more than one extra knot under sail
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features The boat handles well in most wind angles. She is roomy and pleasant to live on bord. However, the size is a little bit tricky for the Med weather as it's capricious
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The autopilot is undersized. The St 4000 is driven by wheel. It's unreliable. I wish that the factory fitted the piston driven system
Sailing characterisitcs Best performance from 10-20 knts of wind. But the Med is rarely under this level. I have experienced 50 knots gusts with it. I had this boat for 11 years before upgrading for the 41 DS. I did 15000 miles in the eastern Med without problems
Motoring characterisitcs The 27hp Yanmar is an excellent engine. A little bit underpowered for the bad seas.
Liveability it's roomy down below. I lived on her several months. I had the AC for hot days. It made it easy to stay inside
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments I very satisfied with Hunter. Now It's my second boat with them. The design is good looking and functional. The price is ok
