Review of the Hunter Vision-36 by Rene Taylor

Year built 1994
Location of boat Port Canaveral, Fl
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Multi-week coastal cruising
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2011
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Still evaluating. In the process of extensive maintenance upgrades as the boat was not well maintained.
Gear that's been added Solar panels (25 amps), 3 banks of AGM batteries, Furuno fish & GPS, TV ant, fully enclosed cockpit, windlass, new head sail, new sail lines and upgrading maintenance on all existing equipment.
Structural or complex improvements The flexible solar panels (62" x 9'-4") mounted on the bimini top with 3 banks of AGM batteries (270 AH, 300 AH and 200 AH,. Windlass system with battery forward near the windlass. Dive platform. Completely enclosed cockpit with screens at side entries, front and rear.
The boat's best features The boat performs great at sea. On the first trip around south Fl from above Tampa through the Keys to Port, Canaveral (580 miles) in 4 1/2 days including 1 stop. Will add more after the trip to Eleuthera, Bahamas in November.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. No design problems thus far. Just upgrading a poor maintenance history.
Sailing characterisitcs The boat performs well so far at sea on the first trip around south Fl from above Tampa through the Keys to Port, Canaveral via the Gulf Stream (580 miles) in 4 days sailing. Will add more after the trip to Eleuthera, Bahamas in November.
Motoring characterisitcs So far so good.
Liveability We like it so far.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) They were helpful in validating the model year. No other experience.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any The Broker experience was not good. Buyer beware of Bill Browning Yacht Sales, St. Petersburg, Fl. Listing did not represent the true poor maintenance condition of the boat.
Other comments The design is interesting and look forward to extended cruising and treat it like a mobile second home away from home. Will update when yard maintenance is completed next month.
